How to Stay Organized and Increase Your Productivity

I’ve always considered myself to be a productive person that is very organized, however I’ve never kept a to-do list and I didn’t use any other methods to stay organized. Instead, I tried to remember everything, relying on my email inbox to stay organized at work, and my mental checklists for when I’m not working. I’d also have a bunch of Memento-style notes that I hastily scrawled when I got a new idea. Sure, all of the important stuff was accomplished – I wasn’t missing any deadlines and my mortgage was paid every month – but what I didn’t realize was that I was wasting so much time and energy trying to stay organized.

I thought I was organized, however my brain was cluttered.

That all changed a few months ago, when my supervisor suggested we try Simpleology. I figured I’d give it a try, what’s the worst that could happen?

So here’s how it works at its core. You have two main components: dream catcher and start my day.

The dream catcher does just that – collects your ideas. If I get an idea I add it to my dream catcher and forget about it until later. You can use the website or send ideas to the dream catcher via text message (or an app if you have the paid version), so no matter where you are you can log your ideas and go on with your day.

Start my day – which doesn’t need to be at the start of the day – is where you take all of your items from the dream catcher and decide what to accomplish. Is it something I do today or save for later (with a reminder date)? Do I delegate it, add it to my calendar, or just dump it all together? Once you make the decision for all of your items you go to your daily targets, which is your to-do list for the day. Once you finish something you mark it done and move on to the next target.

Simpleology has so much more to offer outside of those features however. The site has daily training that will start off by having you master the ‘start my day’ feature, and eventually has you setting short, mid and long-term goals. You’ll learn about Kankyo Kaizen, and how you can use simple hacks to eliminate bad behaviors, and not only redefine the way you approach your day, but also redefine your living space to boost your productivity.

So if you’re looking to be as efficient as possible, I recommend Simpleology. It’s totally free to sign up, and there’s a paid ‘Elite’ version that lets you use an app to add items to your Dream Catcher as well as check your daily targets. There’s also a browser extension to help you stay on track.

It’s really transformed my productivity and has been keeping me organized and focused on my goals. It’ll do the same for you.

Until Next Time,
Tom Zobel
