Staying Fit While Working

You spend 8 hours or more a day at work in front of your computer eating whatever you can get our hands on and not properly getting exercising. This has an impact on your health whether you know it or not, and the lack of free time keeps you from going to the gym on a regular basis.

Here are a few tips that will help you stay fit while working.

Do not skip meals – You are working on a project and you don’t want to stop but it is actually a good idea to take a step back and go for a walk, eat your lunch and then dive back into the project. Resting your brain and fueling your body will help you stay strong and alert while working and you will be less likely to make a mistake.

Go walk on your lunch break – Almost everyone is entitled to a lunch break whether it is a half hour or hour. Make the most of it and go for a 20 minute walk and then eat your lunch. If you can’t go for a walk due to weather or there is nowhere to walk, walk around your office.  If your office has a gym, jump on the treadmill and program it for a low setting. Take the stairs instead of using the elevator. According to an article on healthyliving, an average person can burn 220 calories for 30 minutes of walking up and down the stairs.

Don’t eat out – You can cook healthier foods and make better choices when you prepare your lunch at home. Even if you have a leftover cheeseburger it is still a better choice than a fast food. If you don’t have anything for lunch opt for a salad instead of buying greasy fast food.

Healthy snacks – It’s getting late in the day and you’re starting to get hungry again. Don’t go to the vending machine and buy a bag of chips. Bring some snacks to work like fruit, granola or nuts. Most work places have refrigerators so bring a fruit salad and munch on that through the day. If for some reason you don’t have access to a refrigerator bring a banana or items that you can keep in your desk drawer.

Drink water – Instead of grabbing a can of soda consider bringing a water bottle with you and when you need a refill, you can fill it back up at the water cooler. This will also save you money; if you buy one can of soda every day at $0.50 a piece this will cost you $130 for a year.

Also, so you can stay fit by following these other office healthy tips:
•    If you work close enough, consider riding a bike to work once or twice a week. Not only are you getting exercise but you’re helping the environment too.
•    If you have a question or need to speak with a coworker, walk to their desk instead of calling on the phone. This will also give you a break from sitting for a long period of time and giving your eyes a break.
•    Avoid eating in front of the computer. You will get distracted by what’s on your screen and you could over eat because you are not paying attention.

Following these simple tips will have a great impact on your health and can also save you money.
